Instrument register

Remote reconnaissance and observation support the science plan. Instrument identifiers remain stable across configuration changes and public releases.

This register describes observation roles. It does not substitute for a configuration record, calibration report or current instrument status.

A source record, not just a signal

Each observing record identifies the instrument and configuration. The team keeps processing decisions and derived representations linked to their sources. An edited public release remains distinct from the original observation.

Calibration and comparison

The payload team documents calibration, deployment interfaces and relevant configuration changes. Visual and acoustic comparisons account for instrument response and observation conditions. The absence of a signal is assessed alongside the instrument’s operating state.

System support and crew decisions

Ibis supports indexing and retrieval while distinguishing recorded data from model output. Approved automated procedures do not replace the commander’s operating decisions or the crew’s scientific interpretation.
